Q: How can a plastic surgery facility become accredited in New York?

A: A facility can apply for accreditation once it starts construction and has developed its manuals. Accreditation is a multi-step process which starts with the appraisal of the construction plans and physical layout of the facility. It also includes the review of the facility's policy and procedures and its organizational, operational and emergency plans. The inspector regularly examines the maintenance of equipment and the medications, ensuring that a patient who elects to have anesthesia is in a qualified ambulatory facility and receiving the same degree of care as in a regular hospital.
