Q: What are the advantages for patients of an accredited plastic surgery facility?

A: Primarily, the facility is freestanding and patients are not subjected to the possibility of increased infections which may occur in a hospital where they are exposed to other patients.

Secondly, most ambulatory facilities have a focus on either plastic or orthopedic surgery with specialized and well-maintained equipment and a trained staff exclusive to those procedures. The patient reaps the benefit of having a team that is performing the same surgeries on a routine basis and also has the opportunity to meet the staff and familiarize herself with the setting prior surgery. She is spared the bureaucratic interface that one gets at a busy tertiary hospital thereby ensuring the patient has a relaxed preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative experience.

Finally, the anesthesiologist who works at the accredited facility usually works on a routine basis and is intimately familiar with each of the procedures that are performed. This allows for a careful administering of the amount of anesthesia and results in a more rapid recovery for the individual patient.
