Dr. Keegan's Mission with the Tran Tien Foundation

The mission was organized by the Tran Tien Foundation, a non profit organization dedicated to providing free medical and surgical care, health education and support to the underprivileged in Hue and surrounding areas of Vietnam. There is not only a significant service component to the provision of surgical care, but a strong educational component as well, providing training for local surgeons.

Visiting the city of Hue in Thua Thien Province

I traveled to the city of Hue which is the capital of the Thua Thien Province of Vietnam. Hue is a city of 900,000 and was the imperial capital of Vietnam from 1802 - 1945. I worked at two hospital; Hue Central Hospital and Hue University Hospital.

Surgical Procedures Performed

There was tremendous variety of surgical procedures including: breast reconstruction, nipple reconstruction, cleft lip repair, cleft lip nasal deformity reconstruction, scar revision, burn scar contracture release, otoplasty ear reconstruction, microvascular lower extremity reconstruction.

Dr. Keegan's Personal Mission

I feel it is important to give back to others who are less fortunate, less privileged. I realize that my surgical skills can help others and it is tremendously gratifying. This was my second mission to Vietnam and I look forward to returning next April.
