Breast Reduction Video

Patient 2

This video takes you through a case study of a 40 year old patient getting breast reduction surgery in NYC by board certified plastic surgeon Carlin Vickery.

Video Transcript:

This is Dr.Carlin Vickery. I'm a board certified plastic surgeon with 30 years experience, practicing in New York, New York. The following video will cover a candidate who has undergone a surgery.

Photographs will include some nude shots of surgical sights. Reviewing this video will give you an in depth understanding of the surgical procedure and ideal surgical results.

This 40 year old women presents with a chronic history of neck, shoulder and back pain, which is associated with the large size of her breasts. The patient has attempted to deal with her symptoms, by having physical therapy and massages. However, she has not been able to exercise and live a life free of pain.

On physical examination, one notes that the patient has triple D size breasts, the left breast is larger than the right breast and hangs approximately one centimeter below the right breast. The vast majority of the breast is below the inframammary fold, which is the lower portion of the breast and is really hanging on her abdomen about half way to her belly button.

As one looks at the oblique angle, one can again appreciate the large size of her breasts and the position of the breasts on her abdomen instead of, in the more comfortable position of her chest wall.

In the full lateral view, this is again demonstrated.

In this slide, you can see the pre-operative photograph on the left and the post operative photograph on the right. What one will notice is that the reduction has not only made the breasts appear smaller, but the nipple areola complexes have been raised to a higher position on her chest wall and the horizontal dimension of the breast has been narrowed, so that the breasts are coned and better supported on her upper chest wall.

The scars are around the nipple areola complexes as well as the scar down the lower part of the breast. As these are mature scars, they have largely faded.

On the lateral view, one can appreciate the change in position of the breast. The postoperative results on the right demonstrates the youthful breast with the nipple areola well situated over the breast mass. The volume of the breast equally distributed above the upper chest wall as well as at the inframammary fold.

This is the end of the video presentation. I hope it has furthered your understanding.
